WHAT EXACTLY ARE THE “GOLDEN SCHMOES”?

The Golden Schmoes is the name that we’ve chosen for our annual JoBlo Movie Awards, in which you, that’s every movie fan who visits our site, votes for the movies which they believe were the best/favorite of the year. It ain’t the Oscars, folks…it’s REAL FUCKIN’ MOVIE FANS choosing the flicks!!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

It works in two parts. Part 1 is where you all vote for which films you believe should be nominated for each category (max 5 noms each). This part usually lasts around 10 days after which we will tabulate the votes and decide on the OFFICIAL TOP 5 NOMINATIONS for each category of the actual awards.

WHERE WILL IT TAKE PLACE?

Both the nominations period and the final voting will take place on the official GOLDEN SCHMOES site.

CAN ANYONE PARTICIPATE?

Yup! Just enter your email and get started!

HOW MANY NOMINATIONS CAN WE MAKE PER CATEGORY?

Everyone can choose up to 5 NOMINATIONS per category, but you don’t have to choose 5 if you don’t have that many. In other words, if you can only think of two BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESSES of the year, just put those two down as your nominees.

WHAT DO I DO IF I WANT TO NOMINATE AN ACTOR/DIRECTOR WHO WAS IN MORE THAN 1 FILM IN 2021?

Please vote for the actor/actress/director AND the specific film that you want when you vote. In other words, if you’re gonna vote for Adam Driver make sure you specify that you’re voting for his role in THE LAST DUEL and HOUSE OF GUCCI separately, for example. If each one gets enough votes, he would be nominated TWICE in the same category. Same for all others as such.

CAN I VOTE FOR MOVIES WHICH I HAVEN’T SEEN?

Well, there’s no actual way for us to check this but we would seriously ask EVERYONE to vote ONLY for those movies which you have seen!! Please…let’s try and make our awards as successful as in previous years and don’t “stuff the ballots” with a bunch of votes for one particular movie which you adored, even though it doesn’t make sense for it to be a top nominee in certain categories.

CAN I VOTE MORE THAN ONCE?

No, but you can EDIT your nominees before the end of the nominations period if you happen to change your mind during those 10 days.

WHAT’S TO PREVENT PEOPLE FROM RE-REGISTERING UNDER OTHER NAMES AND CHEATING THAT WAY?

We have ways to find this out and if we find that someone is “fixing” the nominations process, we will disqualify their votes and ban them from the board. We are doing this for fun and because we seriously want to find out what the REAL MOVIE FANS (the schmoes!!!!!) love!! Rigging it for your own good, ain’t what it’s about. Furthermore, we will be using the final results of the nominations process as a “guide” to pick the finalists…not necessarily as the final word.

HOW COME THERE’S NO CATEGORY FOR {insert missing category here}?

The categories we’ve chosen have been working for us since 2001, so for now, we’re going to stick with them. Keep your category in mind for next year’s awards though…you never know.

FROM WHAT LIST OF MOVIES CAN WE PICK?

These are the awards for the North American release period of 2021. You should be able to find a pretty exhaustive list of all films released in 2021….RIGHT HERE.

WHAT DOES ‘BEST MUSIC’ IN A MOVIE MEAN?

It can mean either the soundtrack or the score of a film.

ANY SUGGESTIONS, JOBLO?

Yes, wait to vote. I would seriously suggest that you try and see as many of the movies as possible, so that you can make your picks as precise as you can (I know I am). Editing/changing your picks every other day probably isn’t the best way to go about this.
